Wednesday’s Word of the Week: American Dream

The Pug is back from Wednesday’s Word of the Week hiatus! This week’s word (or phrase) is “American Dream.”

The American Dream is the idea that individuals can achieve upward mobility and success if z/s/he works hard enough. The American Dream is largely considered to be a cultural myth as it does not take into account a person’s social position. Many people work very hard their entire lives but do not gain upward mobility.

What does the American Dream mean to you? Do your dreams differ from “the American Dream?” If so, how?

Attention Pop Culture Pug Friends!

Each week, Vito will post a “word of the week” in which Vito asks all of you about a cultural studies term. If you respond to Vito’s question through FacebookTwitter, or Tumblr your name will be entered into a monthly drawing to win a Pop Culture Pug custom pen! So, the more responses each month, the more chances to win! At the end of the year, your name will be entered with the number of times you responded each week for a chance to win a Pop Culture Pug custom “pug mug”! Your feedback is not only wanted but needed to help spread media literacy!
